“As I grow older, I see myself in a period of giving back,” Larry wrote in his book Hello Darlin’. He believed he possessed a rare opportunity through his celebrity status to bring attention and focus to public health issues, charitable causes and environmental issues that he thought were important. Together he and his wife, Maj, advocated for health education, arts education and alternative energy. They opened their home to educational retreats, fund-raisers for arts and advocacy on the local and national level. From serving as one of the first chair-persons of the National Cancer Society’s Great American Smoke-Out in the 80’s to his role as spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation’s Transplant Games in the 90's and 2000's; to his advocacy for organ donation, his support for alternative energy; to his participation in bringing solar energy to third world countries and disaster sites; and finally, his support for the arts for children, Larry and his wife followed their hearts and their consciences and found ways to give back. We hope you will help us continue their philanthropic wishes through your membership to the Larry Hagman Legacy Library or by making a contribution today. |
